"The Hands Of Man" (2014)

The Hands Of Man lyrics - Chris De Burgh

These are the hands that build cathedrals
These are the hands that feed the world
These are the hands that kill the ones we heal
These are the hands of man

These are the eyes that see the wonders
These are the eyes that greet the dawn
These are the eyes that see the glory of
The place that is our home

These are the wounds that tell of anger
These are the wounds that speak of hate
Yet there was one that gave his only son
And these are the wounds... of love

And we have crossed the oceans
We have followed the stars
We have learned to reason
And we have studied the heart
We can build cathedrals
We are part of the plan
We have sailed the skies
For we are man!

These are the days to live forever
These are the days of the human race
For there will come a time when we'll be gone
Gone without a trace

These are the dreams that take us forward
These are the dreams that walked the moon
These are the dreams that make us what we are
These are the dreams... of Man!

And we have crossed the oceans
We have followed the stars
We have learned to reason
And we have studied the heart
We can build cathedrals
We can sail the skies
We have energy hostage
Turning day into night
We are far from perfect
We are making mistakes
We can change direction
'Cos it's never too late
We can cross over bridges
We can open our hands
To a brand new world
We are man!

And we have crossed the oceans
We have followed the stars
We have learned to reason
And we have studied the heart
We can build cathedrals
We can sail the skies
We have energy hostage
Turning day into night
We are far from perfect
We are making mistakes
We can change direction
'Cos it's never too late
We can cross over bridges
We can open our hands
To a brand new world
We are man!

There Goes My Heart Again lyrics - Chris De Burgh

There goes my heart again
Lost in the dark again
One touch, a crowded room
The whisper of her name

Her cold and simple kiss
Turns me upside down like this
There goes my heart again
I'm losing it over you

So many people say
Don't lose your heart again
But look, what could I do
When lightning strikes this way

She took me by suprise
With that something special in her eyes
There goes my heart again
I'm losing it over you

I've done my time
In the prison of love
And just when they let me out
I'm locked inside again

How could a simple kiss
Turn me upside down like this
There goes my heart again
I'm losing it over you

I've done my time
In the prison of love
And just when they let me out
I'm locked inside again

So throw away the key
This is where I want to be
There's no need to escape
Cos she's in here with me

If this is doing time
Well my friends I'm doing fine
There goes my heart again
I'm losing it over you
There goes my heart again
I'm losing it over you
There goes my heart again
I'm losing it over you
There goes my heart again
I'm losing it over you

Big City Sundays lyrics - Chris De Burgh

Birds on the wing, we are the lost generation
We have to go breaking the hearts of a nation

Oh but I'm fine, this city's ok
This is my time, I'm finding my way
In this brave new world
But there's one thing

Here on a Sunday, it's always the same
The streets are deserted, just me and the rain
On big city Sundays, it's when I'm alone
I'm holding back the tears, dreaming of home

Birds on the wind, sailing the highways of freedom
Birds have to sing, needing a dream to believe in

Oh but all changed, utterly changed in this land
That's losing it's way, like a ship adrift on the ocean

Here on a Sunday, it's always the same
The streets are deserted, just me and the rain
On big city Sundays, it's when I'm alone
I'm holding back the tears, dreaming of home

Home, where my heart is
Home, the sea and the sky and that feeling inside
Just to be with my friends
How I long for that feeling again

Here on a Sunday, it's bringing me down
The streets are deserted, there's no one around
On big city Sundays, it's when I'm alone
I'm holding back the tears, dreaming of home

On big city Sundays, it's when I'm alone
I'm holding back the tears, dreaming of home
Dreaming of home

Where Would I Be? lyrics - Chris De Burgh

We would walk to the park on sundays
Down the road from our very first home
And see the little children playing
Wondering if we would have our own

And now we've had our lovely family
Grown up and gone away
And there is something that I've always meant to say

Where would I be without your love
How can I sleep without your touch
How would it be if I were living on my own
Without you, without you

If I walked in days of darkness
You were always there with a light for me
Down the years there have been so many changes
Friends have parted chasing dreams

But we're still here and there are no regrets
For tears along the way
And there is something that I've always meant to say

Where would I be without your love
How can I sleep without your touch
How would it be if I were living on my own
Without you

We're still here and there are no regrets
For tears along the way
And this is something that I've always meant to say

Where would I be without your love
How can I sleep without your touch
How would it be if I were living on my own
Without you, without you
Where would I be
Without you
Where would I be

The Ghost Of Old King Richard lyrics - Chris De Burgh

I have seen the ghost of old King Richard
Walking through the hall as if he were alive
And with such an air of pain and sorrow
Trying to get back to the other side

I have heard the tale of when King Richard
Was granted a relic of the Holy Cross
But from him 'twas stolen when in prison
Now he's greaving for the loss

Oh a lack a day
May good fortune come his way
Oh a lack a lee
May his spirit rest in peace

I have seen the sword of old King Richard
Hanging with a scabbard at the fireside
Such a mighty blade of Spanish silver
Keen and flashing in the firelight

I have read the words of old King Richard
Standing at the walls of Jerusalem
When he raised his voice to exhort his people
Ready for the battle with the Saracen

Oh a lack a day
May good fortune come his way
Oh a lack a lee
May his spirit rest in peace

Oh a lack a day
May good fortune come his way
Oh a lack a lee
May his spirit rest in peace

I have seen the ghost of old King Richard
Walking through the hall as if he were alive

The Candlestick lyrics - Chris De Burgh

She moved through the fair with a smile in her eyes
So pure and graceful and free
And caught the attention of one who was there
A Candlestick-maker, he

Handsome and young, a craftsman fine
Smitten by her that day
And so then he wrote down a poem for her that would say

"Take me in your hands tonight
Come through the parlour by candlelight
With thee I will wait this night
Chase away shadows and stay 'til the morning is nigh"

But the journey of love is a rocky road
And comes with many a spill
He wooed and pursued her for more than a year
And then she said I will

He made her a gift of a candlestick
On their wedding day
And written in silver around in the words, that did say

"Take me in your hands tonight
Come through the parlour by candlelight
With thee I will wait this night
Chase away shadows and stay 'til the morning is nigh"

That candlestick was so much loved and admired
But hundreds of years would go by
'Twas there in an old Curiosity shop
I found it, forgotten by time

Blackened with age but soon to shine
Beauty from long ago
And I often consider all those who have held it before

"Take me in your hands tonight
Come through the parlour by candlelight
With thee I will wait this night
Chase away shadows and stay 'til the morning is nigh"

"Take me in your hands tonight
Come through the parlour by candlelight
With thee I will wait this night
Chase away shadows and stay 'til the morning is nigh
Chase away shadows and stay 'til the morning is nigh"

Through These Eyes lyrics - Chris De Burgh

Through these eyes I have seen the world
Lived my dreams in a thousend ways
With my treasures and my memories
Now I wait for the end of days

A rose that is old and dry
And a mirror that's broken
But through these eyes they come to life again

And then the rose begins to bloom and shine again
I must be dreaming
And in the mirror there is a face, I'm young again
I must be dreaming

Through these eyes

Through these eyes I have seen so much
In a changing world that is made for the young
And for the ones who are left behind
I still have my photographs

Of where we would laugh and run
Now almost forgotten
But through the darkness I can see a light

And then the sun begins to shine, I see my friends
I must be dreaming
They're reaching out to hold my hand, we're young again
I must be dreaming

Through these eyes
Through these eyes

The Keeper Of The Keys lyrics - Chris De Burgh

I hear her voice
She calls to me
I know she's near
But I cannot see
Through prison walls
That come between
Her dreams of freedom and the real world
Where her face is never seen

All the king's horses and all his men
Are fearful of the power that can come from book and pen
And all the changes there that can be found
And far away I hear a distant sound

It's rolling like thunder

Oh, shout it from the highest window, break down every door
And tell them you won't take it anymore
Show that you will never spend a lifetime on your knees
Rise up and catch the Keeper of the Keys

Oh, what ancient words can hold her here
But she's never heard
By men who claim the higher ground
It was always there for them to have and hold
Where woman's never found

All of the holy men who are at her door
Are frightened that their power will be lost forevermore
If she believes her freedom's on the way
And still it's getting louder every day

The sound of thunder

Oh, shout it from the highest window, break down every door
And tell them you won't take it anymore
Show that you will never spend a lifetime on your knees
Rise up and catch the Keeper of the Keys, rise up!

Tell them you will never spend a lifetime on your knees
And when you catch and kill the Keeper of the Keys

You will be free!
You will be free!
You will be free!
You will be free...

Letting Go lyrics - Chris De Burgh

I can tell by your eyes you've had one of those days
When nothing is easy everything is a strain
The endless queues and traffic
It always seems to be this way

I can tell by your face you need one of those nights
To really go crazy, let the woman inside
Come on out instead of hiding
The way you have to everyday
So now it's time to set her free again

I really love it when you lose control
I really love it when you're letting go
You're really laughing from your heart and soul
It's a wonderful kind of a feeling
It's the best kind of a feeling
Just letting go

I can tell by your face you've had a terrible time
Spending your day just hanging on the line
Trying to talk to someone human
Not a multi choice machine

So put on your makeup and your dancing shoes
A kiss and a hug to get rid of the blues
There is no point looking backwards
'Cos it can only bring you down
So let's go now and really hit the town

I really love it when you lose control
I really love it when you're letting go
You're really laughing from your heart and soul
It's a wonderful night for the feeling
It's the best time for the feeling
Just letting go

What a wonderful night for the feeling
It's the best time for the feeling
Just letting go

You really love it when I take control
You really love it when you're letting go
You're really laughing from your heart and soul
I really love it when you're letting go
Letting go

When The Dream Is Over lyrics - Chris De Burgh

When the dream is over, hold it in your heart
Keep it for the moments when we're apart
Kisses in the moonlight, whispers with the dawn
Memories of this magic with your loving boy

On and on the weels are turning, taking me away
But I'll be coming home again, and on that day...
There'll be celebrations and for you and me
Time to have a dance around the Christmas tree!

On and on the weels are turning, taking me away
But I'll be coming home again, and on that day...
There'll be celebrations and for you and me
Time to have a kiss behind the Christmas tree!

When the dream is over, hold it in your heart
Keep it for the moments when we're apart
Kisses in the moonlight, whispers with the dawn
Memories of this magic with your loving boy
There'll be celebrations and for you and me
Time to have a dance around the Christmas tree!

Welcome back, welcome home
Welcome back where you belong!
Welcome back, welcome home
Welcome back where you belong!

What a celebration and for you and me
Time to have a kiss behind the Christmas tree!
Welcome home...

Empty Rooms lyrics - Chris De Burgh

Empty rooms, childhood's end
Forgotten toys upon the bed
Dreams and memories are all around me now
And I can see you everywhere I look

But moving on is what you must do
Find your way, be happy to
Your world is waiting now and you need never know
Of all these places that I go

To hear the laughter and dry the tears
Remembering all the years
When you were growing up
And every photograph can take me there

We brought you up to be proud and strong
And ready for anything
Oh little child of mine
What life can bring

Empty rooms when I left home
I could not wait to be moving on
I never thought so much about those left behind
But now I know how it has to be

To hear the laughter and dry the tears
Remembering all the years
When you were growing up
And every photograph still takes me there

We brought you up to be proud and strong
In everything that you do
Oh little child of mine I miss you
Oh little child of mine I love you
I love you

The Bridge lyrics - Chris De Burgh

They stood on the bridge together
And watched the river flow
And to pledge themselves forever
A place where lovers go

To fix a lock upon the bridge
And each would have a key
That told of their eternal love
The way that it must be

And with this key, she said I give
My soul, my love, my heart
And if the lock should go from here
Then I will know that we must part

Oh but soon he had to leave her
To be a soldier far away
And she would go down to the cathedral
And every morning pray

To light a candle for her love
To bring him safely home
But on the day the letter came
She knew that he was gone

With trembling hands, she opened it
To read the words which said
"It is with deep regret we must
Inform you that he's missing, believed dead"

She stood on the bridge at midnight
And watched the river flow
And the lock was in her fingers
Into the water she would go

But in the distance heard a voice
Calling out her name
And as he ran to her, she fell
In his arms again

And with this key I gave, he said
My soul, my love, my heart
And when I saw the lock was gone
I knew that we could never be apart
We will never part...

The Fields Of Agincourt lyrics - Chris De Burgh

When darkness comes
And shadows fill the night
We stand at arms
And ready for the fight

Brave men will fall
Upon Saint Crispin's day
On fields of Agincourt hearts will stay

Raise up your voice
And let the fall man hear
Our duty calls
Of them we have no fear

See flags that fly
So proudly in the wind
On fields of Agincourt for them we sing

Now comes the hour
So hear the trumpet call
We will advance with long bow and the sword

Lift up your hearts
For England and the King
On fields of Agincourt
This day we will win

Hail to the King
His kingdom will not fall
Praise to the King
Who leads us from the fore

Long live the King
On fields of Agincourt
They will speak of them this day
And ever more

On fields of Agincourt
They will speak of us this day

And ever more

Ever more

One More Goodbye lyrics - Chris De Burgh

Now that this evening is through
Can I have this dance with you?
Here in your arms, the beat of my heart
Is betraying the way that I feel

Music, a glass of champagne
Who knows when we'll meet again
At the end of the night, by the dawns early light
Will you kiss me for one more goodbye?

Nobody knows what the future will hold
Or what's hiding behind every door
But a journey has begun and if you are the one
Do I have to keep on looking anymore?

So now let this story unfold
It's the same one that's always been told
A boy and a girl in an uncertain world
So kiss me for one more goodbye

Kiss me for one more goodbye

Yes nobody knows what the future will hold
Or what's hiding behind every door
But a journey has begun and if you are the one
Do I have to keep on looking anymore?

So let's dance in the old fashioned way
You've stolen my heart and I pray
That I'll see you again in the sun or the rain
So kiss me for one more goodbye

Kiss me for one more goodbye
Kiss me for one more goodbye
Goodbye

While You See A Chance lyrics - Chris De Burgh

(originally by Steve Winwood)

Stand up in a clear blue morning
Until you see, what can be
Alone in a cold day dawning
Are you still free, can you be

When some cold tomorrow finds you
When some sad old dream reminds you
How the endless road unwinds you

While you see a chance, take it
Find romance, fake it
Because it’s all on you

Don’t you know by now
No one gives you anything
And don’t you wonder how you keep on moving
One more day, your way
Go your way

When there’s no one left to leave you
Even you don’t quite believe you
That’s when nothing can deceive you

While you see a chance, take it
Find romance, fake it
Because it’s all on you

Stand up in a clear blue morning
Until you see, what can be
Alone in a cold day dawning
Are you still free, can you be

And that old gray wind is blowing
And there’s nothing left worth knowing
And it’s time you should be going

While you see a chance, take it
Find romance, fake it
Because it’s all on you

While you see a chance, take it
Find romance
While you see a chance, take it
Because it’s all on you!

Let It Be lyrics - Chris De Burgh

(originally by The Beatles)

When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

And when the broken-hearted people living in the world agree
There will be an answer, let it be
For though they may be parted
There is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
There will be an answer, let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

And when the night is cloudy
There is still a light that shines on me
Shine until tomorrow, let it be
I wake up to the sound of music
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be

Oh, let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
There will be an answer, let it be

Oh, let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah, let it be
There will be an answer, let it be

Oh, let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

The Living Years lyrics - Chris De Burgh

(originally by Mike & The Mechanics)

Every generation, blames the one before
And all of their frustrations, come beating on your door
I know that I’m a prisoner to all my father held so dear
I know that I’m a hostage to all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years

Crumpled bits of paper
Filled with imperfect thoughts
Stilted conversations, I’m afraid that’s all we’ve got
You say you just don’t see it, he says its perfect sense
You just can’t get agreement, in this present tense
We all talk a different language, talking in defense

So say it loud
Say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It’s too late (it’s too late)
When we die (when we die)
To admit we don’t see eye to eye

So we open up the quarrel
Between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future
It’s the bitterness that lasts
So don’t yield to the fortunes
You sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective on a different day
And if you don’t give up, and don’t give in, you may just be OK

So say it say it say it loud
Say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
‘Cos it’s too late (it’s too late)
When we die (when we die)
To admit we don’t see eye to eye

I wasn’t there that morning
When my father passed away
I didn’t get to tell him, all the things I had to say
I think I caught his spirit, later that same year
I’m sure I heard his echo in my baby’s newborn tears
I just, wish I could have told him in the living years

So say it say it say it loud
Say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
‘Cos it’s too late (it’s too late)
When we die (when we die)
To admit we don’t see eye to eye

Yes it’s too late (it’s too late)
When we die (when we die)
To admit we don’t see eye to eye

Every generation…

Blue Bayou lyrics - Chris De Burgh

(originally by Roy Orbison)

I feel so bad, I've got a worried mind
I'm so lonesome all the time
Since I left my baby behind on Blue Bayou

Saving nickels, saving dimes
Working ‘til the sun don't shine
Looking forward to happier times on Blue Bayou

I'm going back some day
Come what may to Blue Bayou
Where you sleep all day
And the catfish play on Blue Bayou
All those fishing boats
With their sails afloat
If I could only see
That familiar sunrise
Through sleepy eyes
How happy I'd be

Go to see my baby again
And to be with some of my friends
Maybe I'd be happy then on Blue Bayou

I'm going back some day
Gonna stay on Blue Bayou
Where the folks are fine
And the world is mine on Blue Bayou
Oh, that girl of mine by my side
The silver moon and the evening tide
Oh, some sweet day
Gonna take away this hurting inside
I'll never be blue
My dreams come true
On Blue Bayou

SOS lyrics - Chris De Burgh

(originally by ABBA)

Where are those happy days, they seem so hard to find
I tried to reach for you, but you have closed your mind
Whatever happened to our love
I wish I understood
It used to be so nice, it used to be so good

So when you're near me, darling can't you hear me
SOS
The love you gave me, nothing else can save me
SOS
When you're gone
How can I even try to go on
When you're gone
Though I try, how can I carry on?

You seem so far away, though you are standing near
You made me feel alive, but something died I fear
I really tried to make it out
I wish I understood
What happened to our love, it used to be so good

So when you're near me, darling can't you hear me
SOS
The love you gave me, nothing else can save me
SOS
When you're gone
How can I even try to go on?
When you're gone
Though I try, how can I carry on?

So when you're near me, darling can't you hear me
SOS
And the love you gave me, nothing else can save me
SOS
When you're gone
How can I even try to go on?
When you're gone
Though I try, how can I carry on?

Where are those happy days, they seem so hard to find…

Seven Bridges lyrics - Chris De Burgh

Sometimes I go down my street without a glance
And I long to see my childhood days again
Sometimes I can hardly even stay still
Needing something new behind the doors I go through

Sometimes I am hot and then I’m cold
When I know that there is something going on
In the places that we all have to go
Before we see the right that’s in a wrong

There are seven bridges to be crossed
Seven years of darkness to survive
Seven times in oceans to be lost
But then I’ll see the shining light

Sometimes seems the hands of time are standing still
Sometimes we all have the need to get away
And to sit in silence all by yourself

Sometimes hands can reach out to the world
Maybe lucky stars are on the way
Sometimes we are taking when we should give
And hate the things that we still really love

There are seven bridges to be crossed
Seven years of darkness to survive
Seven times in oceans you’ll be lost
And then you’ll see the shining light

There are seven bridges to be crossed
Seven years of darkness to survive
Seven times in oceans you’ll be lost
And then you will see the shining light
And then you will see the shining light

Lady Madonna lyrics - Chris De Burgh

(originally by The Beatles)

Lady Madonna, children at your feet
Wonder how you manage to make ends meet
Who finds the money when you pay the rent
Did you think that money was heaven sent?

Friday night arrives without a suitcase
Sunday morning creeping like a nun
Monday's child has learned to tie his bootlace
See how they run…

Lady Madonna, baby at your breast
Wonders how you manage to feed the rest
Pa pa pa pa…
See how they run

Lady Madonna lying on the bed
Listen to the music playing in your head

Tuesday afternoon is never ending
Wednesday morning papers didn't come
Thursday night your stockings needed mending
See how they run…

Lady Madonna, children at your feet
Wonder how you manage to make ends meet

Time In A Bottle lyrics - Chirs De Burgh

(originally by Jim Croce)

If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day 'til eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I'd save every day like a treasure and then
Again, I would spend them with you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do, once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go through time with

If I had a box just for wishes
And dreams that had never come true
The box would be empty except for the memory
Of how they were answered by you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do, once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go through time with

If I could save time…

Already There lyrics - Chris De Burgh

Waking up to yet another grey day
And I say
Nothing ever seems to change round here
Surely there is more to life than dreaming, hoping
Now I want to make those dreams come true

I’m going to get away
I’m going to go today
Had enough of wasting time
Because there is a place
That’s waiting far away
For me to have another life

And there will be a house beside the sea
Beneath a clear blue sky
And every night I’ll go to sleep
And hear an ocean lullaby

Because in my mind I’m already there
Yes, in my mind I’m already there
And this can be more than a dream

I have a photograph
I keep it in my heart
A day from long ago
‘Twas in a music store
I never heard before
Such amazing melodies

And they were talking to my very soul
And set me on my way
Funny how these memories
Can make it feel like yesterday

Because in my mind I’m already there
Yes, in my mind I’m already there
And so I could follow the dream

And we will find that house beside the sea
Enough of wasting time
This will be our destiny
To hear an ocean lullaby

Because in my mind I’m already there
Yes, in my heart I’m already there
In my dreams I’m already there
With my love I’m already there
Already there
Already there
Already there

In The Ghetto lyrics - Chris De Burgh

(originally by Elvis Presley)

And the snow flies
On a cold and grey Chicago morn
A poor little baby child is born
In the ghetto (in the ghetto)
And his mama cries
'Cause if there's one thing that she don't need
It's another hungry mouth to feed
In the ghetto (in the ghetto)

People, don't you understand?
The child needs a helping hand
Or he'll grow to be an angry young man some day
Take a look at you and me
Are we too blind to see
Or will we simply turn our heads
And look the other way?

And the world turns
And the hungry little boy with the runny nose
Plays in the street as the cold wind blows
In the ghetto (in the ghetto)

And his hunger burns
So he starts to roam the streets at night
He learns how to steal
And he learns how to fight
In the ghetto (in the ghetto)

Then one night in desperation
The young man breaks away
He buys a gun, he steals a car
He tries to run, but he don't get far
And his mama cries

As a crowd gathers 'round an angry young man
Face down in the street with a gun in his hand
In the ghetto (in the ghetto)

And as her young man dies (in the ghetto)
On a cold and grey Chicago morn’
Another little baby child is born
In the ghetto (in the ghetto)
And his mama cries…
(In the ghetto, in the ghetto, in the ghetto…)

Long Train Running lyrics - Chris De Burgh

(originally by The Doobie Brothers)

Down around the corner
About a half a mile from here
See the long trains running
Watch 'em disappear
Without love, where would you be right now
Without love

I thought I saw Miss Lucy
Down along the tracks
She lost her home and family
And she won't be coming back
Without love, where would you be right now
Without love

Well, the Illinois Central
And the Southern Central Freight
Gotta keep on pushing Mama
'Cause you know they're running late
Without love where would you be now?
Without love

Well, the Illinois Central
And the Southern Central Freight
Gotta keep on pushing Mama
'Cause you know they're running late
Without love, where would you be now?
Without love

Well the pistons keep on turning
The wheels go 'round and 'round
The steel rails are cold and hard
For the mountains they go down
Without love, where would you be now?
Without love, ooh…
Where would you be now

Mmm, moving on
Moving on
We’re moving on
Yeah moving on
Gotta keep moving on
Gotta keep moving on
Gotta keep moving on
Gotta keep moving on
Say
Down around that corner
About a half a mile from here
We are moving on
Moving on
Without love…
Where would we be now

On A Christmas Night lyrics - Chris De Burgh

I was awakened on a Christmas night
Somebody shaking me and shining a light
“Wake up the winter is here
And snow is falling on the ground”

Out of the window ‘twas a magic sight
And for a little boy it was a magic night
My friends were playing outside
And snow was tumbling on the ground

And we saw a thousand candles in the night
Moving to the church upon the hill
When the people saw us they said “come inside”
And the song that night they sing it still

We are here to celebrate the birth of a child
Who came to the world
We are here to celebrate the life of a child
Who came to the world
We are here to celebrate the birth of a child
Who came to the world
We are here to celebrate the life of a child
Who came to the world on this night
We are here to celebrate the birth of a child
Who came to the world
We are here to celebrate the life of a child
Who came to the world, to the world
We are here to celebrate the birth of a child
Who came to the world
We are here to celebrate the life of a child
Who gave to the world
His love

I was awakened on a Christmas night…

Every Step Of The Way lyrics - Chris De Burgh

Climbing that mountain day by day
Meeting the world along the way
The sun was on my back
And hopes were high
To reach beyond my dreams

Then there were times when all was lost
Back over bridges that I’d crossed
Many were the days I was alone
I’d want to give it up
And go home

And then I heard your voice calling to me
And then I’d feel your arms so tenderly
I thought I was alone in the wind and the rain
But you were there every step of the way

Music has moved me through the years
Brought me the laughter and the tears
But more than anything I treasure friends
I’ve met along the way

Then there were times that I was sure
Nobody heard me at the door
The more that I would push, the less I’d gain
And I’d be on my knees
Once again

And then I heard your voice calling to me
And then I’d feel your arms so lovingly
I thought I was alone in the wind and the rain
But you were there every step of the way

We were together
In the wind and the rain
And you were there every step of the way
Yes, you were there every step of the way

Catch The Wind lyrics - Chris De Burgh

In the chilly hours and minutes of uncertainty
I long to be
In the warm hold of your loving mind

To feel you all around me
And to take your hand, along the sand
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind

When the sun down pales the skies
I wanna hide a while, behind your smile
And everywhere I look, your eyes I'd find

For me to love you now, would be the sweetest thing
Would make me sing
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind

When the rain has hung the leaves with tears
I want you near, to kill my fears
And to help me leave all my blues behind

For standing in your heart is where I wanna be
And I long to be
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind

Moonshadow lyrics - Chris De Burgh

I'm being followed by a moonshadow
Moonshadow, moonshadow
Leaping and hopping on a moonshadow
Moonshadow, moonshadow

And if I ever lose my hands
Lose my plough
Lose my land
Oh, if I ever lose my hands
Oh, if I won't have to work no more

And if I ever lose my eyes
If my colours all run dry
Yes, if I ever lose my eyes
Oh, if I won't have to cry no more

Cos I'm being followed by a moonshadow
Moonshadow, moonshadow
Leaping and hopping on a moonshadow
Moonshadow, moonshadow

And if I ever lose my legs
I won't moan, and I won't beg
Yes, if I ever lose my legs
Oh, if I won't have to walk no more

Did it take long to find me?
I asked the faithful light
Did it take long to find me?
And are you gonna stay the night?

I'm being followed by a moonshadow
Moonshadow, moonshadow
Leaping and hopping on a moonshadow
Moonshadow, moonshadow

And if I ever lose my mouth
All my teeth
North and south
Yes, if I ever lose my mouth
Oh, if I won't have to talk

"Moonfleet & Other Stories" (2010)

The Village Of Moonfleet... (Narration) lyrics - Chris De Burgh

The village of Moonfleet lies half a mile from the sea, in the centre of Moonfleet bay, a death trap for sailors caught in a south-westerly gale. It was on a cold February night in the year seventeen hundred and fifty eight that young John Trenchard, a boy of 15, set off to the graveyard in search of the treasure that was said to be guarded by the ghost of Blackbeard. But it was not the light from Blackbeard's lantern that John saw that night, but from smugglers in the bay. And soon, he was to be caught up in their dangerous world, and his life would change forever.

The Light On The Bay lyrics - Chris De Burgh

Last night, I saw it there,
Shining in the dark again,
The light that all men seem to fear;

They say that sailors were drowning in the bay,
And people kept away,
Waiting for the riches that a wreck would bring,
When the morning comes,
And now the ghost of Blackbeard walks again,
To haunt the ones who would not hear the pain;

“help me --
help me --“;

I took the old path down, down to where the graveyard lay,
The place I knew when I was young,
They say that Blackbeard had hidden precious stones,
Amongst the ancient bones,
So I set off to the darkness down below,
By the candle glow,
T’was then I heard the voices, saw a light,
And started on the journey of my life;

Have A Care lyrics - Chris De Burgh

With the voices getting nearer I knew that I had to hide,
I got up behind a coffin, then I saw who was inside,
By the skin and bones of Blackbeard I lay there in the dark,
T’was then I heard a whisper above the beating of my heart;

“Have a care, have a care,
T’was evilly come by and no good will you find there,
Have a care, have a care,
T’was evilly stolen, only pain and sorrow there - have a care!”

So t’was from the world of smugglers that I hid myself that night,
And when they left I opened up the coffin for a look inside,
But instead of Blackbeard’s diamonds, in the locket at his heart,
Only verses from the Bible and a voice came from the dark;

“Have a care, have a care,
T’was evilly come by and no good will you find there,
Have a care, have a care,
T’was evilly stolen, only pain and sorrow there - have a care!”

“What shall we do with the boy who’s hiding,
what shall we do with the boy who’s hiding,
what shall we do with the boy who’s hiding, early in the morning?”

“Lock him in the vault so he can’t get out boys,
Lock him in the vault so he can’t get out boys,
Lock him in the vault so he can’t get out boys, early in the morning!”

For Two Days And Nights... (Narration) lyrics - Chris De Burgh

For two days and nights, John lay trapped in the vault with only the bones of the dead for company. His cries for help were finally heard by Moonfleet publican, Elzevir Block, who brought him back to his tavern, the Why Not. This brave and kindly man was to look after John as his own boy, in place of his son David, a lad of the same age, who had been brutally slain by much hated magistrate Maskew. By cruel chance, Maskew was also the father of the beautiful Grace, the love of John's life - a love that would survive every twist and turn of fate. But with an uncertain future ahead, John is told by Elzevir it is time to decide: find steady work and make a life elsewhere, or stay with him, in the dangerous world of the smugglers.

Go Where Your Heart Believes lyrics - Chris De Burgh

Freedom calls,
And in your heart you have been waiting,
For this moment to come,
Within these walls,
You have heard words of inspiration,
That have opened your eyes;

I am old but there’s a wisdom that comes with years,
You are young and it’s so easy when you have no fears;

Go, go where your heart believes,
Your memories are waiting,
It’s the only way to find out who you are;

In this life, there is a road that you must follow,
To the left or the right,
One is wide but the other is hard and narrow,
Take this one, and you can call it your own;

There will be so many voices trying to turn you round,
Take a moment just to listen, then carry on;

Go, go where your heart believes,
Your memories are waiting,
It’s the only way to find out who you are;

There will be times when you’re lost and lonely,
And you will have no-one beside you,
And that is when you’ll find the hidden one inside,
Who will help you through;

Go, go where your heart believes,
Your memories are waiting and your dreams are on their way;
Go, go to your destiny,
You know I will be with you every step of the way, go;

(Go where your heart believes,)
Freedom calls;
(Go to your destiny,)
Go where your heart believes.

The Escape lyrics - Chris De Burgh

And so it began,
The story how Elzevir would look after John as his own son,
And the smugglers betrayed on Moonfleet Bay
by Maskew looking now at Elzevir’s gun;

Then a shot rang out in the morning light,
Maskew fell, a hole between his eyes,
But it was his own men who brought him down,
and they also got poor John – oh, they also shot poor John;

Oh, it’s a dangerous world boys,
Oh, with the smuggling crew,
Oh, it’s a dangerous life boys,
When you’re running from the Revenue,
When you’re running from the Revenue;

And so to escape it came now for Elzevir to pick up the boy,
and carry him away,
For he could not walk with a bullet in the leg,
and they made for the safety of the Purbeck cave;

T’was there that John would read one night,
The words in the locket by candlelight,
For the Bible verses held the key to Blackbeard’s hidden treasure,
at the bottom of a Castle well;

Oh, it’s a dangerous world boys,
Oh, in a smuggler’s life,
Oh, in the Days of our Age boys,
That’s where the secret of the Treasure lies,
That’s where the secret of the Treasure lies.

Oh we're going to be rich boys,
The treasure we will find,
Blackbeard's bones are dancing here tonight;
Yes, we're going to be rich boys, the treasure we will find,
At fourscore-feet-deep-well-North is where it lies!

And So It Was... (Naration) lyrics - Chris De Burgh

And so it was there by the flickering firelight in Purbeck Bay, John discovered the secret of the locket that would lead him to Blackbeard's treasure. For the words, "fourscore feet, deep well north" were the clues hidden in those verses from the bible. The days of our age are threescore years and ten, and though men be so strong that they come, to fourscore years, yet is their strength then...

The Days Of Our Age lyrics - Chris De Burgh

The days of our age are threescore years and ten,
And though men be so strong that they come,
To fourscore years, yet is their strength then,
But labour and sorrow, so soon passeth it away,
And we are gone;

And as for me, my feet are almost gone,
My treadings are well nigh slipped,
But let not the waterflood drown me,
Neither let the deep swallow me up;
So going through the Vale of Misery,
I shall use it for a well,
Till the pools are filled with water;
For thou hast made the North and the South,
Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name.

The Secret Of The Locket lyrics - Chris De Burgh

In those verses of the Bible,
A message was concealed,
And soon for John,
The secret was revealed;
Deep in a Castle well,
The treasure could be found,
Blackbeard’s diamond,
Fourteen fathoms down;

“Have a care, have a care, have a care,
T’was evilly come by;”

Though running as an outlaw with a price upon his head,
To his darling Grace,
He had to go instead,
To tell her of his love and all the riches he would bring,
With Blackbeard’s diamond,
And buy her a wedding ring;

“Have a care, have a care, have a care,
T’was evilly come by;”

With Heavy Heart... (Narration) lyrics - Chris De Burgh

With heavy heart, before he set off on the trail of Blackbeard’s hidden treasure, John met with his beloved Grace just one more time, not knowing where, or when, they would ever meet again.

My Heart's Surrender lyrics - Chris De Burgh

This is my heart’s surrender,
This is my chosen moment,
This is the time to tell you I love you,
Then I have to say goodbye;

And I will miss you when winter comes,
And when the summer is here,
And I will listen to wind and wave,
And I’ll pray that you’ll never forget,
The one who is breathing your name;

Somewhere, there’s a heart that’s waiting for this day to come again,
Someday I will come to take you to a world where love cannot hide anymore;

So don’t cry for me, don’t cry for me, I will return;

You say you’ll always love me,
A candle in your window,
Forever shines where an angel waits to bring me home again;
Back to the place where I’ll always be,
With every dream that I have,
For like a tree with the deepest roots,
No storm can bring us down;

Somewhere, there’s a heart that’s waiting for this day to come again,
Someday I will come to take you to a world where love cannot hide anymore;

Don’t cry for me, don’t cry for me, I will return;

This is my heart’s surrender.

Treasure And Betrayal lyrics - Chris De Burgh

It was on the trail of riches,
We set off upon that day,
To the Castle keep of Carisbrooke,
To where the treasure lay,
And soon I found the diamond,
At the bottom of the well,
But that traitor of a Turnkey,
To his death below he fell;

“Have a care, have a care,
T’was evilly come by and no good will you find there,
Have a care, have a care,
T’was evilly stolen, only pain and sorrow there - have a care!”

Then across the sea to Holland,
With the jewel in my hand,
Where we went to sell our treasure,
At the house of Aldebrand,
When he said it was no diamond,
Through the window it was tossed,
But that wicked man was lying,
And we were caught in a double-cross;

“Have a care, have a care,
T’was evilly come by and no good will you find there,
Have a care, have a care,
T’was evilly stolen, only pain and sorrow there - have a care!”

“What shall we do with the boy who’s stealing?
What shall we do with the boy who’s stealing?
What shall we do with the boy who’s stealing, early in the morning?”

Throw him into jail let him rot forever,
Throw him into jail let him rot forever,
Throw him into jail let him rot forever, early in the morning!”

“Have a care, have a care,
T’was evilly come by and no good will you find there,
Have a care, have a care,
T’was evilly stolen, only pain and sorrow there - have a care!”

Moonfleet Bay lyrics - Chris De Burgh

Alas poor John, he was a prisoner,
Fortune’s fool for many a day,
Blinded by that cursed diamond,
With his freedom, he must pay;

And so it was for faithful Elzevir,
Cast in chains for ten long years,
With never a word of blame or anger,
Just for John, t’was only tears;

Oh oh oh, only tears,
Oh oh oh...

Blow, wind blow,
And send them home again,
Set the sails for England’s way,
Many a heart is grieving for them,
Bring them back to Moonfleet Bay;

And as for Grace,
She’d still be waiting,
Waiting for her only love,
Every night a candle burning at her window,
Should he come;

Oh oh oh, should he come,
Oh oh oh...

Blow, wind blow,
And send them home again,
Set the sails for England’s way,
Many a heart is grieving for them,
Bring them back to Moonfleet Bay;

Blow, wind blow,
And send them home again,
Set the sails for England’s way,
Many a heart is grieving for them,
Bring them back to Moonfleet Bay;

Many a heart is grieving for them,
Bring them back to Moonfleet Bay!

The Storm lyrics - Chris De Burgh

Now the time had come for Elzevir and John,
To be sent from Holland’s shore,
And to end their days in pain and misery,
To be slaves so far from home;

Oh – how sweet the salt sea air,
Oh – how bright the sun,
Oh – but little did they know of the storm that was to come,
And the ship that would go down;

Hey boys and listen well and a story I will tell,
Send for the prisoners down below - down below!
Hey boys and wish ‘em well and the fate that them befell,
And pray that you will never see the day,
You’ll fight for your life on Moonfleet Bay!

Well the storm hit hard and the waves were high,
It was every man for himself;
By a twist of Fate t’was on Moonfleet Bay,
Where the ship would meet its end;

Oh – with a roar of wind and sail,
Oh – the ship was gone,
Oh – in the night, they saw a light,
Twas the candle Grace had shone,
And her boy was coming home;

Hey boys the ship is down,
Every man must swim or drown,
Head for the breakers on the shore - on the shore!
Hey boys for Elzevir, he put John in Fortune’s care,
For no man ever was there till that day,
Saved from the sea on Moonfleet Bay!

“What shall we do with the boy who’s drowning?
What shall we do with the boy who’s drowning?
What shall we do with the boy who’s drowning,
early in the morning?”

“Throw him a rope and God go with him,
Throw him a rope and God go with him,
Throw him a rope and God go with him, early in the morning?”

And Elzevir, he gave his life away,
For John was the only man that day,
Saved from the sea on Moonfleet Bay!

Greater Love lyrics - Chris De Burgh

Here he lies before me,
My friend for many years,
He saved me from the water,
Now I’m drowning in my tears;

Grief is but a poor word for everything I feel,
There can be no greater love;

He was there to guide me through the follies of my age,
Always there beside me, everything forgave;
Held me as a father, showing me the way,
There can be no greater love;

No fear did he have before the storm,
The fate of others was his only thought,
And though it was the way to certain darkness,
To save my life he gave his own;

For my life he gave his own,
And these words are writ in stone, where he lies;

“Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friend;”

“Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friend;”

“Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friend.”

In The Years That Followed... (Narration) lyrics - Chris De Burgh

In the years that followed, John would marry his childhood sweetheart, Grace, and they called their firstborn son Elzevir. Fortune smiled on them, for on his deathbed, the jewel merchant, Aldobrand begged forgiveness for having stolen the diamond, and in his will, left great wealth to one John Trenchard of Moonfleet Village, Dorset, whom he had so grievously wronged. It is said that in his final hours, Aldobrand would cry out in terror, speaking of a large man with a coppery face and a huge black beard, who stood at the window – mocking. John and Grace touched not one penny of the money, but laid it out in good works, renewing the church, creating a hospital and building a lighthouse – a welcome beacon to generations of sailors. From time to time, John would return to the seashore, where the final words of the friends who had saved him echoed in his heart. And he loved it best when the waves were lashed to madness in an Autumn gale, thanking God he was not fighting for his life in the roar of the surf. For no other man before or since was taken alive from Moonfleet Bay.

The Moonfleet Finale lyrics - Chris De Burgh

Go, go where your heart believes,
Your memories are waiting,
Your dreams are on their way;

Go, go to your destiny,
You know I will be with you every step of the way;

Go, go where your heart believes,
Another World is waiting,
All your dreams are on the way;

Go, go to your destiny,
You know I will be with you every step of the way!

Everywhere I Go lyrics - Chris De Burgh

Everywhere I go,
Everywhere I go I see an image of her face,
She talks to me,
She talks to me in a thousand ways;

Everyone I know,
Everyone I know is calling on the telephone,
"Are you ok, are you alright,
'cos you're never at home?"
Well I couldn't be better,
I found my way,
She is an open door to a brand new day;

Everywhere I go I see her face again,
Everywhere I look I see her smile and wave,
Everywhere I hear her voice is calling,
This time, I finally opened my eyes to a beautiful angel,
Oh, who's been caring for me like a mother for a child;

Everywhere I go,
Everywhere I go I see the shadow of a light,
It shines on me, it shines on me from another time;

So many dark days, and lonely nights,
Until she found the way, to change my life;

Everywhere I go I see her face again,
Everywhere I look I see her smile and wave,
Everywhere I hear her voice is calling,
This time, I finally opened my eyes!

Everywhere I go I see her face again,
(Everywhere I go),
Everywhere I look I see her smile and wave,
(Everywhere I look),
Everywhere I hear her voice is calling,
This time, I finally opened my eyes, to my beautiful angel,
Oh, who's been caring for me like a mother for her child,
Everywhere I go;

This time, I finally opened my eyes,
Everywhere I go.
